Mohammed Cartoons and My Own Tradition
The story about the Mohammed cartoons is just getting more and more attention. I thought it would probably just die off but since it has to do with offending someone, of course it’s just gonna get bigger.
I’ll be the first one to tell you that you can’t accurately judge anyone from the actions of the few, especially in religion. The nuts are the ones most likely wanting to be on television and so on. So for this story, instead of Muslims, I’ll call these the “media Muslims”.
Some Danish paper published cartoons depicting Mohammed and the media Muslim world is now in an uproar. It is against Islamic tradition to depict Allah or Mohammed. I just recently posted something about religious intolerance a little while ago, and although I agree that cartoons like this could offend people in other religions, threatening to kill people and boycotting entire nations seems a little extreme and a little childish to say the least.
Jordanian tabloid al-Shihan editor Jihad Momani:
I’ve seen photos of people walking on Danish flags, there have been Danish flags burned, some countries have boycotted Danish products, armed men even stormed the EU office in Gaza City demanding an apology. For a cartoon!?! GROW UP YOU WHINY BABIES. I recently heard some of the behaviour of those in the middle east described as being like kids. I am inclined to agree! Depicting Mohammed or Allah might be against Islamic tradition, well guess what, here’s my tradition.
It is my tradition to:
1-Not be blown up by a suicide bomber
2-Not be blown up by a car-bomb
3-Not be killed by an IED
4-Not be beheaded
5-Practice my own religion
6-Use my own judgement, not yours
It’s also my tradition that this tradition be extended to all our soldiers. There you have it! The war in Iraq is over and solved! The Muslim world is awesome about obeying tradition right? They never ever ever overstep the bounds of other people’s freedoms or religions or preferences right? Now there’s nothing to fear.
Everyone’s raising such a stink about this and I wonder, where was the Muslim outcry when those young Christian school girls were beheaded in Indonesia just after Ramadan? Indonesia is predominately Muslim, they were Christian kids, and one of the severed heads was reportedly found miles from the bodies outside a Christian church. I don’t recall all the condemnations of the Muslim community that this isn’t the type of thing they do. Al Qaeda can ram airplanes into our buildings and kill thousands of people, and we catch harsh criticism because a prisoner feels insulted. It seems all a bit ridiculous.
If you disagree with me on even the slightest point, please be sure to share with me your race, religious preference, and native country so I know who to threaten and boycott, and which embassy to raid.

"Muslims of the world be reasonable ... What brings more prejudice against Islam, these caricatures or pictures of a hostage-taker slashing the throat of his victim in front of the cameras or a suicide bomber who blows himself up during a wedding ceremony in Amman?"
