THWARTED: 9/11 Part 2

Within one month of the attack on New York in September, it's alleged mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed, began planning an attack on Los Angeles. Rather than using Arabs again, the plan was to use Southeast Asians. Mohammed made contact with the alleged operations chief of Jemaah Islamiyah, Hambali, and targeted the tallest high-rise on the west coast, the Library Tower, or more currently known as the US Bank Tower. Using shoe bombs, terrorists would gain control of the cockpit and ram the plane into the building.

This plot and others were brought down through multiple actions across several nations. In February 2002, the leader of a small cell of four terrorists, possibly a Malaysian cell, was captured, the rest of the cell being picked up later. Hambali, who was also suspected of being a key player in the Bali bombings of 2002 was picked up in Thailand in August 2003. March 2004, Mohammed was arrested in Pakistan. Mohammed had originally planned on hitting the buildings hit on September 11th, as well as CIA and FBI headquarters, nuclear power plants, and the tallest buildings in Washington state and California.
